Description

A custom concept doll made using recycled kitsch & various craft acessories. This took me a few months to do, mainly because I was experimenting most of the time I was working on it. Once or twice I wasn't happy with the way an area was going, & literally cut it off with a stanley knife & re-seal with varnish & glue to start over (the cut-off bits will probably be used on something else later). This is the as finished as it will ever be version, you can see an older incarnation of the same doll posted earlier in my gallery here. I wasn't sure what to make of him first, so I kind of went along trying things out & throwing together things that seemed to look right with each other. If I could describe him in fantasy terms, I'd probably say that he's a spaniel-headed, spur-winged, faerie-pegasus-manticore-quilin, like this.

This one's not for sale, and I dont have time at the present to take commissions for similar dolls. Until I do, if enough people are interested, I can put together some more detailed instructions for making one of your own, & post it here later as a tutorial.

The basics:

Head - broken off head of a procelain kitsch dog. I made the 'antlers' out of a piece of silver christmas decoration painted & glued on. Antlers are luminescent, thanks to some glow varnish :D

Body - two large plastic crystal-style beads, connected to each other & the head by black pipecleaners threaded through them (the body is jointed in the middle). I also used extra pipecleaners to make the shoulder, hip & wing joints. Chest & hips bulked out with small black glued-on pompoms & partly covered with glued-on holographic sequins.

Legs - jointed & beaded pipecleaner pieces, with a plastic crystal bead under a hollow conic metal bead for the feet (bead-caps probably would've worked ok for this as well).

Wings - silver holly Christmas decoration, artificial flower petal & a metal 'fang' bead, edged with dimensional cloth paint, tied & glued together on a looped & twisted piece of black pipecleaner. Enhanced with smooth rhinestones, mini-pompom/faceted rhinestone trefoil & holographic sequins at their backs. I also painted the backs of the leaves & petals with luminescent varnish before putting it together.

Tail - jointed & beaded pipecleaner pieces, with a dyed shell 'tooth' bead inside a hollow conic metal bead.

I also used a shaggy cotton yarn in black & multicolour to enhance the body, wings, tail & legs. Dimensional cloth paint in clear & dark grey glitter was very useful for tidying up places like where the head joined the rest of the body, and clear nail varnish for sealing knots. Glued & stick-on rhinestones finished the job.

Scanned & photoshopped. [Edit] - the doll has been revamped *again*, and it's (hopefully) final form is here.
