Description

Update: I've decided to make this creature into a species, so I've made some small changes to a few of it's details, and a copy of this picture will be used in the ref. It will belong to the same story universe as the Zheghote [link] , Dhur [link] , Sahrukin [link] , Rhynt [link] , Missia [link] , Hyrony [link] , Brice [link] , Olman [link] and possibly Owlmus [link] (etc). Because this species will be historically of human/mixed species origin, I will not be using it in any crossbreeding games.

Out of curiosity, I put my name through an anagram generator and google/wiki searched what results I didn't know. Then, out of being a glutton for self-punishment, I made a chimera of the 18 animals present or implied in the results:

Jackal (tail brush, back fur), Lion (beardy chin, body & paw structure), Auk (face markings, mouth corners, part of paw structure, foot webbing), koi (markings, barbels), Koala (nose, ear & chest fluff, two opposable thumbs), Lac beetle (antennae, black claws & tarsal pads behind feet), Anoa (horns, neck/cheek markings, dew hooves on hindfeet), Junco (head/neck colour, white feathers edging tail), Koulan (ears, flank markings, mane), Ancona (feathers on tail brush, foot scales, ear-wattles), Jiao* (back scutes, flank/belly scales), Kina (spines in neck mane, some body scales hexagonal), Laika** (face markings, short curly/wavy body coat), Unal (elbow/hock fur which is rough & algae-covered like a sloths, foot pads, syndactyl claws on forefoot), Uncia (back/shoulder/face markings, whiskers), Oulakan (colour of flank & body scales).

Plus luna (moth spots on the elbows***), lanolin (woolly head & neck) & Oink/Kali (pig bristles fringing crocodile scutes along back).

Whatever these critters call themselves, they live in clans administered through an Aulic court, speak a mix of Joual, Caolo & Louk, and write in Uncial and Kana script. The religious ones believe they have a Ka, worship Luna (thogh some follow Kali), and use Ikons, Koans, Alanui and Jnana Yoga concepts in their philosophy and practices. They live in Cajon-type dwellings built over burrows or in front of clifftop caves. When not out hunting/fishing/gathering sap and eucalypt leaves they grow cashews, acorns, Kola herb, Calalu seed, Canola, Oca yams, Oka sorrel in canal-watered patches, and brew Calla (heather) & Liana (ivy) into an a cola-like beer. Their bands traditionally sing kai-style, accompanies by the Cajon and the Auloi. Their travelling nuns, corporals and ancillas appreciate cajun food when visiting inns, though if things get rowdy most of them know a few Ninja skills to get them out of trouble - or even out of jail, if nescessary. This usually to happen to the cullions among them, most like to give the impression of being a true Jannock.

& if you want to know what half of this means, you have Google & Wiki :)

This was a bit of a headache to put together coherently (for example: finding good places to stick the sea urchin bits..), but I think I scraped it through. If you think you really need to try this at home, a good anagram generator is here. (I reccomend going to advanced settings & selecting candidate words only - and if you really want to torture yourself, also set it on English/obsucre words)

* A chinese water dragon, said to be based on the crocodile [ Link ]
** the dog breed [ Link ], and the dog.
*** which I've probably gotten wrong since I didn't have a ref in my books or hd. It's late, and I'll fix it up later. Same for the black Snow leopard whiskers.

You can see the traditional media scan of it here, and an updated version here.

Put in under fantasy since I'm not 100% sure what category is better for it.
